This variety of Japanese painted fern is a spectacular plant. Its leaves are silvery grey, almost metallic. The stems and midribs are dark maroon-purple. Such fantastic combination makes it a must have for every fern collector.
In spring cut off all foliage to encourage growth of new leaves. It needs light, fertile, and preferably acid soil that is constantly moist. Grow it semi-shade, filtered sun or shade. It is hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4).
