Deciduous broadleaf Summer blooms |
PINKACHU is a panicle hydrangea bred by Timothy D. Wood from the Spring Meadow Nursery in Michigan, USA, i.e., the same breeder behind the very successful LITTLE LIME variety from 2011.
PINKACHU is another compact piece, this time with larger flowers on thick, deep maroon stems. The flowers appear from about mid July, they emerge creamy white and during the summer they take on sharp pink tones which will cover up the entire inflorescence by early autumn. The deciduous leaves are deep green, oval to ovate. PINKACHU hydrangea grows upright into a compact, sturdy shrub whose branches do not bend under the weight of flowers. It is protected by European Patent No. EU 55651 from 2020.
It will grow in almost any soil type, preferably humus-rich, moist soil that is not too heavy or shallow. Once established it does not need extra watering like big-leaf hydrangeas. Full sun is best but it will grow in shade, too. Feeding is much recommended to enhance flower size. We recommend regular pruning every spring before the buds begin to swell. By cutting at least two thirds of previous year’s growth you will get a strong shrub with large flowers and a regular shape. It is hardy to at least -40°C (USDA zone 3).
