Deciduous broadleaf Summer blooms |
Cinquefoil is a popular plant in gardens of various sizes and is often found in city parks and arboretums. They have several flower colours and thanks to zero maintenance they can be planted almost anywhere. PINK PARADISE® cinquefoil originated in a Dutch nursery in Amstelhoek in 2006 where it was found by Hendricus Jacobus Maria Kuijf, i.e. the same breeder behind the hugely successful orange flowering trumper creeper variety INDIAN SUMMER® from the 1980’s.
PINK PARADISE® cinquefoil is a natural mutation of an older variety Pink Beauty (1987). It makes about 2.5 cm large, single to semi-double flowers of bright pastel pink colour. Blooming begins in June and continues until September, perhaps with a little break in midsummer. It makes well branched, dense, and compact shrubs which are narrower than its parent that is rather spreading. Palmately divided leaves are small, medium green, not very showy. Pruning is possible in early spring. Thanks to very little care needed and high resistance to whims of weather, pests, and diseases it is ideal for low maintenance gardens. PINK PARADISE® cinquefoil was granted a European patent EU 30272 in 2011 and in the USA PP22732 in 2012.
Cinquefoil grows best in well-drained, poor, or moderately fertile soil in full sun. Fast and large growing varieties can be trimmed in early spring. It does not need extra fertilizing or watering once established, though a good selective fertilizer may enhance continuous production of new flower buds. It is fully hardy to abt. -40°C (USDA zone 3), and suitable for outdoor pots down to zone 5, just do not let them dry out completely.
