DIAMANTINO® is another panicle hydrangea bred by Jean Renault from France. It makes almost completely white flowers composed in large, up to 20 cm tall and 15 cm wide inflorescence. They comprise of mainly sterile and fertile flowers which emerge pale lime green and change to nearly snow white and remain such until maturity when they turn light pink. Flowering begins later than on most panicle hydrangeas, usually in early August in CE climate which will help extend flowering time of your gardens.

Stems are strong and upright, around one meter tall, and the shrub is compact and bushy. Plants require hard pruning in early spring (March) – cut back all last year’s growth to some 10 cm only and remove all thin or ill branches to encourage new and strong growth. Patent No’s PP26978 (US) and 43241 (EU) were granted in 2016.

It will grow in almost any soil type, preferably humus-rich, moist soil that will not be too heavy or shallow. Once established it does not need extra watering like big-leaf hydrangeas. Full sun is best but it will grow in part shade, too. Feeding is much recommended to enhance flower size. Plants are hardy to at least -34 °C (USDA zone 4) and suitable for outdoor planters.
