ANNIVERSARY BLUE is a winning selection of speedwell bred by German branch of Dutch breeding company Florensis B.V., in Quedlinburg. It boasts rich indigo blue flowers composed in slim, erect spikes from late June until early autumn. Yes, this speedwell continuously produces new flowering spikes which extends it blooming season until the first frosts. Removing spent flowers will encourage formation of new flower buds.
Leaves are narrowly lance-shaped, serrated at margins, deep green, and usually healthy. The plant makes a dense, many-branched, non-invasive clump. Use it in a mixed bed among plants with contrasting colours or quite the contrary: tone-in-tone. Patented in Europe by PBR as EU 57576 in 2021.
Speedwell will grow in any moist but well-drained, reasonably fertile soil, preferably in full sun but partial shade will do no harm. Regular feeding will encourage formation of new flowers throughout the season. Hardy to about -34 °C (USDA zone 4), and will grow well in a container, too, where the soil should never dry out.
