BOULEVARD® is a clematis series from the English island Guernsey. They are a result of several decades of breeding by a devoted enthusiast and clematis breeder Raymond Evison (*1944), OBE, from The Guernsey Clematis Nursery. All plants from the series are compact and free flowering already from the ground level, filling the whole plant with numerous flowers for an extended period of summer and autumn.
BOULEVARD® EDDA is a compact clematis with rich purple red to purple violet flowers. They are 8-10 cm across and each of 6-10 petals has a broad bar or brighter purple shade. They come out from late June until November if the weather is sunny and relatively warm. It is a short, moderately growing climber so if grown in a pot you can easily tie up new growths within the supporting trellis to enhance its shrub appearance.
It belongs to Group 3 clematis whose flowers appear on new growths. Cut back all the previous year's stems to a pair of strong buds, 15-20 cm above soil level, before growth begins in early spring. Deadhead regularly.
Clematis likes deep, fertile, moist but well-drained soil that remains cool. You can grow a plant below clematis that will provide shade for its roots. Add garden compost in late winter and mulch it well. Fertilize pot-grown plants regularly during the growing season. Fully hardy to min. -34°C (USDA zone 4).
