Beauty is simplicity. Or the other way round? Pearl bush confirms both. The name itself sounds very attractive and the shrub definitely is a showstopper when in full bloom. Pearl bush comes from Asia and racemosa species is from China.
MAGICAL SPRINGTIME is a breathtaking pearl bush variety from the Netherlands which is noted for its ability to bloom on both young and old wood. It bears profusion of snow white, 2-3 cm large flowers composed in short racemes from about mid April. They have no fragrance but appear in abundance every year. Narrowly obovate, deciduous leaves are mid green and come out early in the spring. It was bred by Peter Rudolf Kolster in 2013 and patented in Europe in 2016.
MAGICAL SPRINGTIME forms a compact, upright growing, narrowly vase-shaped shrub. It can be planted in the back of a garden bed or in a large outdoor container. Pruning is not needed but if you wish to keep it smaller and very dense you can cut it after flowering so it has plenty of time to make new branches with many flower buds. It does best in moist but well-drained, slightly acidic soil in full sun or dappled shade. Fully hardy to approx. -34°C (USDA zone 4).
