Cinquefoil is a popular plant in gardens of various sizes and is often found in city parks and arboretums. They have several flower colours and thanks to zero maintenance they can be planted almost anywhere. Holger Hachmann is a German breeder renowned mostly for breeding rhododendrons and azaleas. But in his nursery in Barmstedt they also hybridize other shrubs, for example cinquefoil. BELLA SOL is a variety from 2006, a cross between Annette and Orangenschimmer, producing orange flowers.
BELLA SOL cinquefoil makes about 2.5 cm large flowers of rich orange colour which does not fade. Blooming begins in June and continues until September. The plant differs from a similar variety Orange Tip Top by more compact, almost dwarf grow. It is still too new to estimate its ultimate site, still you can expect a mature size of about 40x50 cm. Palmately divided leaves are small, medium green, not very showy. Pruning is possible in early spring. Thanks to very little care needed and high resistance to whims of weather, pests, and diseases it is ideal for low maintenance gardens. BELLA SOL was introduced to trade in 2015 and patented as PP27685 in 2017.
Cinquefoil grows best in well-drained, poor or moderately fertile soil in full sun. Fast and large growing varieties can be trimmed in early spring. It does not need extra fertilizing or watering once established, though a good selective fertilizer may enhance continuous production of new flower buds. It is fully hardy to abt. -40°C (USDA zone 3), and suitable for outdoor pots down to zone 5, just do not let them dry out completely.
