MOODY BLUES® is a speedwell series bred by Michael S. Dobres at Ball Horticultural Co in West Grove, PA, USA. It comes from hybridizing Tickled Pink variety whose seeds were exposed to radiation for genetic mutations. New plants first flowered in summer 2012 showing various colours.
MOODY BLUES® DARK BLUE is a dark indigo blue flowering speedwell variety. It produces 20-30 cm tall plants with long spikes composed of small flowers from mid May until early June. If trimmed afterwards they re-bloom in August for another 4-6 weeks. Leaves are narrowly lanceolate, serrated at margins, deep green.
Use it in a rockery or a mixed bed where it will make a beautiful edge plant combined with other pastel coloured perennials. Patent No. PP26602 was issued in 2016.
Speedwell will grow in any moist but well-drained, reasonably fertile soil, preferably in full sun but partial shade will do no harm. Regular feeding will encourage formation of new flowers throughout the season. Hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4), and will grow well in a container, too, where the soil should never dry out.
