Deciduous broadleaf Hedging plants |
One of the original trees found in natural woodlands of Europe is hornbeam. Varieties of this deciduous tree are becoming more and more popular in gardens, too.
Fastigiata, syn. “Pyramidalis” is an elegant, slow growing hornbeam with columnar habit and branches growing strictly upright. Ovate, unequally toothed leaves are bright to mid-green. In parks, where it has plenty of room for roots, it can grow into a large tree, however, in limited space in middle-sized garden it will grow slower and compact. Also popular is using it in hedges where it forms a tall and thick wall requiring more space than usual hedging plants – count on min. 2m around one plant.
Widely soil adaptable. Fully hardy to min. -34°C (USDA zone 4).
