Coreopsis – tickseed is a wonderful, maintenance-free perennial which shines its way through any garden with richly coloured flowers all summer long. You can have a country garden or be a city-garden enthusiast, coreopsis will still have features suitable for your plot.
SunKiss is an American variety of tickseed marketed by Proven Winners®. It makes very large, 8-9 cm across flowers of the brightest golden yellow colour with brown eye. Ray florets are slightly dissected at tips. They appear from mid June until late autumn, while the weather is sunny and relatively warm. Deadheading (of flowers AND stems) will enhance the flowering but is not a must, it will still flower abundantly every year and all summer long - for incredible 5 months. Presto tickseed forms a bushy, almost perfectly rounded clump with light to mid green, narrowly lanceolate leaves. By late summer the plant multiplies its size almost three times.
Coreopsis will grow in almost any soil apart from boggy and heavy clay, and as it withstands some level of drought it is popular for rockeries. Making it a glowing feature in your perennial bed is the reasonable and expected way of using it. But placing it among shrubs with different foliage and flowers will mean an honour for this easy to grow and affordable beauty. Fully hardy to about -29°C (USDA zone 5).
