Deciduous broadleaf Summer blooms Hedging plants |
Weigelas are valuable garden shrubs that grow freely in almost any soil and require little maintenance. They are deciduous shrubs growing 1.5 – 2.0 tall and just a bit less wide. Leaves are ovate to oval. Bell or funnel shaped flowers come in many colours and appear at the end of spring / beginning of summer and sporadically towards the end of summer. “Red Prince” has deep green leaves and bright purplish red flowers. It thrives in semi-fertile, slightly moist soil, preferably in full sun. Prune right after flowering to a third or half on new growths. Flowers on last year’s wood. Fully hardy.
