TOURAN™ DEEP RED is one of seven varieties among TOURAN™ series of moss saxifrage. It was bred by Martien Everett Gutter from the Netherlands, and patented in 2007 as PP19643. It is a selection of an older variety Purperteppich against which it has more compact habit, earlier flowering, and richer red flowers. They appear from mid April atop about 10 cm tall, slender stems, and are deep velvet red as well as the stems.

The plant forms a compact clump of evergreen, soft green leaves. Flowers come out in profusion and create a breathtaking colourful carpet. It grows at moderate growth rate, doubling its size within one year.

Saxifrage likes moist but well-drained, loam-based soil and location in full sun or partial shade. It will form a dry nest in its centre in too dry soil in full sun. Hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4). NOT suitable for pots and dry rockeries.
