Countess Diana - Gräfin Diana® is another fascinating hybrid tea rose from the Parfuma® Collection by Kordes.
It produces noble flowers about 8 cm across, deep burgundy black as they open from buds, and rich burgundy red as they mature. And the perfume! Exquisite - deep and strong, especially at noon and in early evening. It is a very healthy rose with deep green leaves. It flowers repeatedly from June until frost. The shrub is slightly over one meter tall and a little less wide. It was bred by Tim-Hermann Kordes in 2003, awarded ADR in 2006, and patented as PP25528 in 2015. It received many awards including one from Paris for the perfume.
Planting instructions: Prepare a hole of size 30x30 cm. Put your rose in the way that the grafting point is 3 cm deep in the soil. Water well and cover new shoots with soil or bark mulch about 15 cm high. Roses tolerate wide range of soils but thrive in deep, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, in full sun. During the flowering season regular feeding is recommended. Its hardiness was so far tested down to -27°C (USDA zone 5b).
Pruning: Regular deadheading during the flowering season will enhance production of new flower buds - remove stems with spent flowers above the first leaf with 5 leaflets where the stem is strong and does not bend. Hard prune the whole shrub in early spring after frosts to 3-5 live buds above the ground.
