In 1981 French rose breeder Marie-Louise Meilland od Meilland Rose Nursery introduced another beautiful rose paying tibute to Aachen, a German town on the German-French border, this time its cathedral hence the name Aachener Dom. The preceding rose was called Gruss an Aachen.
Aachener Dom is a beautiful, large-flowered hybrid tea rose with rich salmon pink flowers with silvery gleams making them shine like a new metallic car paint. And the fragrance - wow, rich, deep, sweet tea, long-lasting. Leaves are large and very healthy - this rose was awarded ADR in 1982 (until 2004). It makes an upright shrub with strong braches that can easily carry the weight of its large and heavy flowers. Repeat flowering from June until October.
Planting instructions: Prepare a hole of size 30x30 cm. Put your rose in the way that the grafting point is 3 cm deep in the soil. Water well and cover new shoots with soil or bark mulch about 15 cm high. Roses tolerate wide range of soils but thrive in deep, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, in full sun.
Pruning: Cut the branches in half in autumn and prune hard to 3-5 live buds in spring after danger of frosts. During the flowering season prune flowered stems regularly, and follow a regular feeding programme.
