Every region or country has its typical plants. The ones of you who ever traveled to the Mediterranean must have seen its beautiful umbrella pines. These gorgeous looking trees are not hardy enough for Central European climate. However, cultivators screamed eureka when they selected a variety which can stand frost down to -30°C for a limited period of time. This tree is a rarity in our part of the world and so far it has not been possible to set its maximum height. Golan pine grows bushy as young, forming wide branches rising upwards at the ends to create an umbrella-like or almost flat crown later. Needles are medium soft, bright green, young growths are blue-green. Although it does not require any winter protection we recommend finding it a location sheltered from freezing winds.
