In 1985 The Principality of Monaco asked the Meilland family, one of the world’s leading rose breeders, to create a rose which will represent the national colours of Monaco. Many trials were made and 15 years later, in 2000, Alain Meilland came up with a breathtaking piece which received the name Jubilé du Prince de Monaco to honour Prince Reinier III of Monaco. For the interntional trade the rose was given an easier name Fire & Ice.
Fire & Ice is a beautiful floribunda rose with mid-sized, double flowers with dark velvet red outer sepals and white inner sepals. The combination is striking yet very elegant. There is only a very mild fragrance. Leaves are very glossy, dark olive green, and very healthy, almost entirely resistant to common rose diseases. Fire & Ice rose was awarded many times, including one of the most prestigious awards AARS (All American Rose Society) in 2003.
Planting instructions: Prepare a hole of size 30x30 cm. Put your rose in the way that the grafting point is 3 cm deep in the soil. Water well and cover new shoots with soil or bark mulch about 15 cm high. Roses tolerate wide range of soils but thrive in deep, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, in full sun.
Pruning: These roses needn’t be pruned. What you can do though is deadhead stems with spent flowers above the first leaf with 5 leaflets. You can trim the shrub in early spring.
