Siskiyou Pink is a uniquely coloured gaura with pink and white flowers. They open from fuschia red buds into white flowers with pink marbling or central stripes. The ratio of pink colour varies flower to flower. Stems are very thin and move in the slightest breeze thanks to which the flowers look like a cloud of butterflies flying above the foliage.
Gaura is a perennial with extra long blooming season and requires very little or no care at all. It emerges in late spring with deep burgundy red leaves that turn green in summer when the plant matures to a dense and bushy clump. Stems of Siskiyou Pink grow about 30-40 cm tall by late summer and if you want to keep the plant more compact you can prune them in midsummer - in a couple of weeks new stems with flower buds will rise up.
In the wild gaura lives in naturally moist lands where it thrives. In the garden grow it in equally moist but well drained soil in full sun. Once established it tolerates summer drought. The richer soil the more flowers you get so if unsure about your soil quality fertilize it with any common fertilizer for flowering plants when in bloom. Hardy to about -25°C (USDA zone 6) and mulching is recommended for areas with long lasting frost without snow. Never let is stand in water in winter.
