BELONGS TO CATEGORIES | Evergreen broadleaf |
Thick-leaved evergreen honeysuckle comes from China and has small but very pretty and glossy leaves. They are rounded, rich green with purple margins in summer and dark purple red in autumn and winter. Little Honey® is a recent introduction from the Netherlands which produces profusion of honey yellow or light orange flowers from early June. The have no fragrance but last for at least a month.
It is a ground-covering plant and can be trained along a vertical support as a climber. Its new shoots are quite long but for a neat cushion we suggest trimming them in midsummer in order to achieve a compact plant with dense foliage.
It is soil tolerant, it can take both full sun and shade but won’t cope with heavy clay or water-logged ground. Its is reasonably hardy to about -24°C (USDA zone 6), and may withstand short spells of slightly stronger frost.
