Matrona is a German variety of orpine. It is renowned for its robust habit with large, oval, light green, thick leaves with purple margins and purple stems. In late August it produces almost flat cymes of pale lilac to pink flowers with beige to light yellow centres. They continue blooming until mid autumn and even after flowering they remain attractive bringing interest to your winter garden.
These perennials are easy to grow, they will like almost any well-drained soil, they do well in rockeries and outdoor pots. Cut them back in early spring. Fully hardy to min. -34°C (USDA zone 4).
