Some crab apples can easily compete with Japanese ornamental cherries as far as the beauty and colours of their flowers. This is the case of ´Royal Beauty´. It is a small tree growing about 2.5m tall, with weeping, somewhat narrow crown. In the spring it brings a profusion of deep pink to light purple flowers. Young leaves are deep burgundy, turning to dark green throughout the season but keeping the purple shade on the underside. This is an ideal tree for small-sized gardens where it will be an eye-catcher in the spring when in full bloom, same as in the summer when it is fully foliaged. Crab apples are maintenance-free, weeping forms are not supposed to be pruned. Occasional fruits are non-edible. It likes humus rich and permeable soil.
