Pixie is a very showy Japanese maple, a dwarf version of very popular Bloodgood. It has the same 5-lobed, deciduous leaves that are rich burgundy red in summer and striking magenta red in autumn. For best colouring grow it in full sun only. It grows slowly, making only about 10-15 cm per year, forming an upright shrub of a compact shape.
Japanese maples need constantly moist soil that has to be well-drained, acidic to neutral, and medium fertile. Keep it mulched all year round. It will love a location with high air humidity, e.g. at a river bank or near a pond but it is not a must. Fully hardy to min. -27°C (USDA zone 5b).
