Baggesen’s Gold is an attractive honeysuckle variety with evergreen foliage. Its leaves are small, glossy, and emerge golden-yellow in spring, changing to bright green with yellowish overlay in summer. It produces multiple layers of branches whose shape may recall a fern frond.
It grows medium fast or fast, forming a compact, low to mid-sized shrub. If you clip all branches aiming upwards you will get a perfect ground-covering plant that will complement many other shrubs, especially conifers with dark foliage or taller perennials.
Honeysuckle is not difficult to grow. It likes well-drained, fertile soil and will grow in full sun or shade. It is hardy to about -23°C and in too damp site the foliage may suffer from sunscald in winter but will quickly regenerate.
