Beauty is simplicity. Or the other way round? Pearl bush confirms both. The name itself sounds very attractive and the shrub definitely is a show-stopper when in full bloom. This variety is a novelty from Dutch nursery town Boskoop, and was bred by Herman Geers.
Its name is Niagara®. This pearl bush bears profusion of snow white, 2-3 cm large flowers composed in short racemes in late spring. They have no fragrance but appear in abundance every year. Narrowly obovate, deciduous leaves are mid green and come out early in the spring.
It is a mound forming, slow growing, and compact bush with slightly arching branches. It can be planted in the back of a garden bed or in a large outdoor container. Pruning is not needed but if you wish to keep it smaller and very dense you can cut it after flowering as it flowers on last year's growths. It does best in moist but well-drained, slightly acidic soil in full sun or dappled shade. Fully hardy to approx. -34°C (USDA zone 4).
