Skylands, also called Aurea Compacta, is a dwarf version of golden Caucasian spruce. It is an attractive conifer with golden yellow needles all year round, unlike varieties Aureospicata and Early Gold which make excellent colour of newly emerging shoots but then turn back green. Skylands holds is yellow shades from January till December.

It grows very slowly, making only some 1.5m in 10 years. Lateral branches grow horizontally first, later they rise a bit upwards in an angle of about 45°. Thanks to its slow growth and compact habit it is ideal for small gardens where it can be used as the only larger specimen among other compact and dwarf plants.

Spruce is widely soil adaptable provided the soil is well-drained. It likes neutral to slightly acidic soil and full sun. No fertilizing necessary. Fully hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4).
